How the pokeballs work according to my awesome friend, Nicholas Machado.

So we all know from the cartoons that when ash caught a poke’mon. (which wasnt very often!) the poke’mon always had fainted first, and then the pokeball was thrown. now, for us that play the video games we know this to not be the case. the way to catch a poke’mon is to get it to low health points and then throw our chosen pokeball (ranging from a regular “pokeball” to great ball, ultra ball, master ball, etc.) well, nick in all his splendor enlightened as to why the pokeballs vary and how based on the amount of health left on the poke’mon of interest.

so, a basic pokeball works best on a poke’mon with very low health, usually in the red or at low levels even in the yellow. the basic ball is thrown at a moderate speed and power so as to deal the last amount of health points on the poke’mon, leaving it fainted and then captured (like in the cartoon!)

great ball: it goes a little faster and hits a little harder

Ultra ball: the trainer holds it and “charges his/her power” and releases it in a under arm fashion where it then roars across the field and rears up to uppercut the poke’mon being captured

and lastly

Master ball: The trainer is filled with such power and conviction to catch the assumed “legendary” poke’mon. that they don’t turn their hat in the convention “lets freakin’ do this manor” oh no! the hat is thrown, THROWN! to the floor and the eyes of the trainer burn with the intensity of the catch! as they “charge” the ball, earth and air around them begin to tear apart until finally the ball is released. and when i say released i mean thrown at the power to rip a whole in the sound barrier and the faces of everyone watching! the ball rips through the air and low enough to the floor to gouge the earth as it roars towards its target! but oh ho ho!! it doesn’t make contact right away, oh no! it runs past and then comes back around! back around with a mission! a mission to Eff that poke’mon up! it bursts into flame with the intensity of 500 suns and finally meets its target in the face! an instant K.O. and the poke’mon is yours. you pick up your hat and continue your journey of badd-ass-ded-ness!

Nick, you rock
